Zororo Leadership Academy
Children are being orphaned on a massive scale. Some children are travelling into the cities to become street kids, in a desperate bid to find food and some form of security. This merely adds to another fast growing problem as these children have no protection and expose themselves to even greater dangers as they sleep in water drains, on pavements, dumping sites and in parks. The world is blind to their plight.
Help the situation by supporting our first project in Zimbabwe - The Zororo Leadership Academy. We are building a school and home for children orphaned by the HIV/AIDs epidemic.
"Zororo" means peaceful and restful
The school site is a farm comprising 28,000 hectares. It lies approximately 100km from the eastern side of Harare City.
As the site is a farm, the school will be financially self-sufficient in the long-term. This will minimise project costs and maximise effectiveness.
Zororo Leadership Academy
The aim is to build schools for children orphaned by Aids/HIV in deprived third world countries. The first project is in Zimbabwe in a place called Zviyambe in Wedza district. Research carried out in a very small part of Zviyambe gave alarming results. 179 children varying in age from 4 to 16 were identified as orphaned by Aids, HIV and other related illnesses. Zviyambe, lies approximately, 120km away from Harare City. It is in the District of Wedza in the Mashonaland East Province. The project shall be built on farmland which comprises 28,000 hectares. It lies between two rivers - the Mucheke River on the west and the Sabi River on the east side. Sabi River is one of the three great rivers of Zimbabwe and it empties its waters into the Indian Ocean. Unfortunately, due to global warming or abuse of these rivers by human beings, these rivers are being depleted of water. The farm boasts of lovely forest trees, hills, rocks, a river and an array of diverse flora. It is covered by indigenous trees including - Mupani, Musasa, Munhondo Mupfuti among others.
A Home and School
Ndoro Children's Charities has been created to give as many children as possible the opportunity to achieve their potential through education and skill development training. We also aim to give children a home to call their own. Our goals are to create access to education by constructing a school for these disadvantaged children. We also aim to establish income generating projects, such as growing vegetables (tomatoes, cabbages, spinach etc), rearing livestock (cattle, sheep, goats, pigs and chickens) and planting crops (maize and groundnuts). This will be a priority so that the school becomes self sufficient as soon as possible and does not have to rely solely on donor agencies. Zviyambe is rich in quality timber and good soil. Children can therefore be encouraged to take up pottery and carpentry. The focus will be on working with local craftsmen so as to train children in the regional arts. It is estimated that over 500 children will have access to primary school education for the first time in their lives during the 5 year duration of the project.
Beneficiaries
- Orphaned children - who receive a good education, are well-nourished and have a safe home to call their own.
